After watching one of Dr. Boyer's video lectures, I was convinced to try a boxed wine. I have to admit, he was right about the common viewpoint of wine in a box. I thought it meant nasty, trash wine because what is wine without a cork? But I was proven wrong - I actually enjoyed this red blend.
From 2021 and a price tag of about $16.99 from Kroger, this California wine has lasted a few days and is hitting a week soon. This blend is made of primarily Shiraz, Syrah, and Merlot grapes. The flavor remains potent and fresh tasting. The aroma is that of dark fruit and has an acidic flavor that remains on the pallet. The label was the same on both sides, but noted chocolate aromas and a ripe blueberry flavor which I can agree with. It was slightly tart but not in a way that makes the sides of your mouth hurt, I felt it was balanced. I also preferred it to be slightly cooler than room temperature.
From Wine Folly (page 1,015), the Lodi Region of California was mentioned for its aromatic, smokey fruit flavors and smooth tannins which I think levels out perfectly for this wine. Reviews have remained consistent mentioning how smooth it is with hints of red fruit like raspberry and red cherry, and hints of chocolate and tobacco. They also mention its ease to drink, its simplicity, and seemed shocked at how tasty it was for a boxed wine.
